ABOUT CURRICULUM
The curriculum is broadly based and exists to provide, as far as possible, the ideal of maximum opportunity for each individual. All students follow a general course of education comprising Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Music, Design & Technology, ICT, CPSHE (Citizenship, Personal, Social and Health Education), a Modern Foreign Language (French) and Physical Education. Design & Technology includes Art and is taught in modules. This enables every student to work within the National Curriculum guidelines of Art, Resistant Materials, Food, Textiles, Graphics and Control Technology. Information and Communication Technology is reinforced as an element across the curriculum, knows as ICTAC, and progress is closely monitored. Enrichment modules are followed by all students one lesson per week.
Students are placed into bands according to their ability, taking into consideration their Year 6 Teacher Assessments, results at Key Stage 2 and Standardised Tests. Throughout Years 7, 8 and 9 students’ progress is monitored to ensure that they are in the appropriate band to meet their needs. We make curriculum opportunities available equally to each student, irrespective of gender, race, religion or ability.
The School Curriculum has responded to the changes made in the National Curriculum Statutory requirements for Key Stage 3.
In recent years the curriculum has developed not only to equip the school to deliver the National Curriculum but also to increase the breadth of educational experiences offered to the students. There continues to be development in all curriculum areas, particularly in the field of assessment. An area of obvious development has been Information and Communication Technology. There is now a network with 30 stations in the Information and Communication Technology Room with Intranet and Internet connections.
There are smaller networks in a number of classrooms, and there are also independent stations in many classrooms. Laptops, with wireless internet connection, support ICTAC. Internet access, DVD Rom Computers are available in the Library and Learning Resource Centre.
Computer Aided Technology is used in the Design Department. All curriculum areas are involved in developing the use of Information and Communication Technology in all its different forms.
