The mathematics department at Saint Martin’s is proud to offer a broad curriculum which, whilst adhering to national standards, also presents our students with an opportunity to study mathematics in a way which is both relevant and interesting.

To this end we offer a blend of formal teaching, investigative work and open ended projects that allow students to expand their knowledge whilst taking some responsibility for their own learning.

We have introduced an interactive internet based learning platform that allows new teaching, revision and practice and on-line self marking homework. This has been popular with most students as it makes a pleasant change from written homework with formal teacher feed back. The latter is still required as it provides invaluable evidence for student assessment as well as practice for the exams that our students will inevitably sit at some point in the future.

St Martin’s has an excellent reputation as a high achieving school. This will continue due to our focus on stretching the best students through rich tasks and higher level activities and, by giving maximum support to our weaker students to ensure they achieve their best. This may include one to one tuition where appropriate.
