MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Music at St Martins is based around a great deal of practical work, learning about vocal and keyboard skills in year 7, developing guitar skills as well in Year 8, then using these skills on more complex composing tasks in years 9. Students are encouraged to come to the extra music activities that are available and various ensemble and bands are able to use the practice room to rehearse at lunchtimes.
As well as a thriving school choir and orchestra, some students take lessons with visiting teachers from Leicestershire Arts, with lessons of 20 or 30 minutes. Any parents interested in finding out more about this must contact Leicestershire Arts directly 0116 2700 850, the school is not allowed to arrange them.
The school likes to take advantage of any new opportunities to widen the student's experience and this year ahs held an African Drumming day for all year 7 students and has also been involved in a massed choir performance of Poulencs Gloria at De Montfort Hall as part of th YFAV project.
