STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council allows students at Saint Martin’s to:
• Voice their opinions
• Debate on issues that really matter
• Unite together to really make changes happen
The Student Council are pleased to announce the success achieved this half term, due to the hard work and enthusiasm of the different groups run under the umbrella of this Council. We feel this has been a tremendous encouragement to the start of the academic year, and will continue to aim for the very best for St. Martin’s Community.
Community Activities in School
Anti-Bullying Week:- What a success we had due to team work by the Student Council and the M20 Team.
Anti-Bullying Alliance Campaign
This was even better to hear that the M20 Team won the DVD competition run by the Leicestershire County Council.
Anti-Bullying Alliance (Booklet, Words and Feelings)
The Alliance are very interested in this booklet, and will be visiting us in the near future to view production progress.
Re-cycling
Re-cycling of decorations at Christmas – another success for St. Martin’s - taking 3rd prize in the competition run by the LCC Re-cycling Department. Mrs. Maltby together with her Form co-ordinated the making of decorations and collected the ones produced by other Tutor Groups with the help of the Student Council.
Re-cycling of Waste – we are looking at the amount of waste we are producing in school in order to reduce it.
A member of the LCC will be giving us support together with members of the Re-cycling Team from the Council.
Charities
We have supported a number of charities, at home and world wide, with a good response to the collection of goods and donations raised by the St. Martin’s Community. The students are to be commended for their speedy response in raising money for the people of Haiti. Our forthcoming Mini-Marathon will provide an opportunity to continue to support charities. This year we hope to support the young people of Azara, Nigeria in our charitable work.
The Student Council has been running for a 10 years, two representatives from each tutor form one boy and one girl are chosen by election of their peers, and will be on the school council for 1 year only. The councillors, will agree to maintain the highest standards of behaviour and politeness, and the School Council meetings are held once a month.
Thanks to the hard work of students the Council has become well established and is now achieving great things.
